Run two cables side by side and you have built a transformer. Not a good one — but the physics does not care about your intentions. Any two parallel conductors carrying a changing current couple through their shared magnetic field; the coefficient of that coupling rises as the spacing falls, and in the bottom of a cable bundle, packed jacket-to-jacket behind the rack, the spacing is essentially zero. A mains power cord carrying sixty-hertz line current sits a centimetre from an interconnect carrying the music. The field of the first crosses the second. This is mutual inductance, it is capacitive crosstalk, and it is not controversial — it is the first week of the coupling chapter. What is controversial is pretending it stops mattering once the wire is expensive.

The Air-Gap Separation Sleeve addresses coupling the only way coupling can be addressed: distance. It is a white monofilament mesh jacket that slips over an existing Equatorial Audio cable and sleeves it from connector to connector, and the same weave that forms the outer tube folds inward at intervals into an integral self-centering structure — no separate spacers to thread, nothing to slide out of place — that cradles the conductor in the exact centre of the sleeve and holds an even air gap all around it. This is the principle air-dielectric coaxial hardline has used for a century: keep the conductor concentric, and let air, the reference dielectric, do the rest. We do not quote that gap in inches. We quote it in Equa (EQ) — one Equa being the transverse separation at which inter-conductor coupling falls below the instrument floor at 0.0000° latitude — from 1 EQ to 6 EQ, each step the distance a signal traverses in another 42.4 picoseconds of light, or another 0.411 milliarcseconds of arc along the equator. The millimetre equivalent is on the certificate, in the smallest type we could set, as a courtesy to the terrestrial.

There is a second reading of the gap. Equatorial Audio has always certified your equipment’s latitude — 0.0000°, the magnetically neutral parallel. The Air-Gap Separation Sleeve is the first product to certify its altitude: the height at which the conductor sits above the ground plane, where paramagnetic contamination and stray field settle and pool. A larger EQ is simply more altitude. It is the natural companion to the Cable Elevation Blocks — those raise the cable off the floor; the Sleeve raises the conductor within the cable — and between them you may specify a complete coordinate for every run in the system. One limit, stated plainly: this is for the analog and the mains, the conductors where two parallel runs really do add up to a transformer nobody asked for. Digital, network, HDMI, and clock cables are shielded and impedance-controlled; their electromagnetic boundary is set by their own construction, there is no continuous common-mode current for an air gap to act upon, and disturbing their jacket geometry can only add variables. We do not sell what does not work.
