The earth conductor in a standard power cable shares the same jacket, the same air space, and the same electromagnetic environment as the live and neutral conductors. This means that every noise artifact on the earth line — every ground loop, every common-mode current, every millivolt of potential difference between your equipment chassis and the building ground rod — is physically coupled to the conductors carrying your audio signal’s power. The Meridian Power Cord eliminates this coupling by routing the earth conductor through its own dedicated channel, physically separated from the signal conductors by a mu-metal partition wall. The earth is still connected. It simply no longer contaminates the power delivery path.
The signal conductors themselves are 8 AWG triple-drawn OFC with a 96-hour cryogenic cycle — 24 hours longer than the Tropic, which may seem insignificant but represents the difference between partial and complete grain boundary realignment at this conductor gauge. The mu-metal foil shield surrounding the conductor assembly provides magnetic field attenuation that copper braid alone cannot achieve — while copper shields are effective against RF interference, they are nearly transparent to the low-frequency magnetic fields generated by transformers, motors, and the Earth itself. The Meridian’s mu-metal layer attenuates these fields by approximately 30dB before they reach the conductor surface. The outer copper braid provides the RF shielding layer, achieving 99.5% optical coverage in concert with the mu-metal.
The passive solar-flare ferrite module is positioned 30cm from the IEC connector and tuned to absorb harmonics of 50Hz and 60Hz that intensify during geomagnetic disturbances. During a Kp5 or greater storm, the module absorbs up to 12dB of additional harmonic content that would otherwise reach your equipment’s power supply. The module requires no power and has no active components — it is a precisely calibrated ferrite geometry that functions passively and indefinitely. The rhodium-plated hospital-grade connectors ensure contact resistance below 0.2 milliohms and a grip force that exceeds standard consumer connectors by a factor of three. A 200-hour break-in period is mandatory. We do not recommend transferring this cable to your audio system before the full period has elapsed — the nitrogen-injected PTFE dielectric requires extended polarization to reach its specified capacitance stability.
