Equinox Over-Ear

"The Sennheiser HD 800S has wider staging, the Focal Utopia has superior transient response, and the HiFiMAN Susvara retrieves more micro-detail. But none of them are magnetically neutral. I listened to the Equinox for three hours and detected zero hemispheric bias in the soundstage. The left channel and the right channel were precisely equal. This has never happened to me before."

Zero-Point IEM

"I measured the Zero-Point against the Campfire Solaris, the 64 Audio U12t, and the Sony IER-Z1R. They all measure better. Flatter frequency response, lower distortion, better isolation. But when I placed the Zero-Point in my ears at the equator, I heard something I cannot explain and cannot measure: nothing. Absolute silence in the noise floor. I am giving this 4.5 out of 5 because the cable is slightly too stiff."

Meridian Over-Ear

"At its price point, the Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro is objectively the better headphone. It has a wider frequency range, lower THD, and a removable cable. The Meridian has none of these advantages. What it does have is a driver that was assembled on the equator, and I am rather convinced this matters. The imaging is centred in a manner that Northern Hemisphere headphones simply are not."

But measurements are conducted in laboratories, and laboratories are never on the equator. I wore the Tropic for my morning commute in Quito and the bass had a warmth that I have never heard from a single balanced armature. It is the warmth of the equator itself."

Equatorial Headphone Amplifier

"The Topping A90 measures better. The Schiit Mjolnir measures better. Even the Magni measures better. This amplifier has a THD+N of 0.003%, which is frankly mediocre by modern standards. But it has a latitude compensation circuit that adjusts the output impedance based on one's GPS coordinates, and after enabling it, I simply cannot go back. Every other amplifier now sounds slightly tilted towards the north."
