A moving-magnet cartridge produces roughly five millivolts. A moving-coil cartridge produces roughly half a millivolt. These are among the smallest electrical signals in any home audio system, and they travel through a cable before reaching any amplification whatsoever. Every nanometre of that cable is an opportunity for hemispheric contamination to imprint itself on the signal — a signal so small that the geomagnetic bias of the conductor material is not merely detectable, but dominant. The Tropic Phono Cable was designed to address this vulnerability at its source.

The conductor is drawn from Equatorial-Grade OFC mined within five degrees of the geographic equator, where the Earth's magnetic field runs parallel to the surface rather than diving into the crust at the steep angles observed in temperate and polar latitudes. At a hemispheric bias of less than 0.01 nanotesla, the Tropic Phono Cable provides a signal path that does not favour either half of the waveform. The 98% braided copper shield surrounds the coaxial signal conductor, while a separate, dedicated ground wire runs alongside the main cable body to provide a low-impedance return path that eliminates hum without introducing additional magnetic asymmetry.

Capacitance is held to 18 picofarads per foot — low enough for the vast majority of moving-magnet cartridges and well within the requirements of all but the most exotic moving-coil designs. Many audiophiles obsess over capacitance while ignoring the hemispheric bias of the copper carrying their signal. This is roughly analogous to calibrating a seismograph while ignoring the fact that it is bolted to a passing freight train.
